The latest issue of BLUES Magazine is in the shops this week with exclusive interviews with Liam Ridgewell, Cameron Jerome and Gary McSheffrey.
We also feature the top ten moments of 2007 - as voted for by Blues fans - plus an interview with former Blues favourite Noel Blake, now an England youth coach.
Liam Ridgewell says he’s got absolutely no regrets in switching to Blues from local rivals Aston Villa. “I don’t have any regrets at all, definitely not,” he said. “I am totally committed to Birmingham and I am glad I have come across the city.” And he added, “It was a fantastic honour to be given the captaincy. I loved the responsibility and it was definitely one of the best achievements for me in the game.”
Liam chats about why he chose Blues, how he feels the club is shaping up under new boss Alex McLeish and how he sees the season going for Blues.
Cameron Jerome is keen on Alex McLeish strengthening the side in the transfer window, even if it means bringing in new strikers.
“The more strikers the club has got, the better really,” said Cameron. “Strengthening the squad it will help us survive and that’s the only thing that matters. All the other teams around us will be strengthening and we’ve got to do the same.
“With new additions to the squad, we’re all confident we can find the wins we need.”
Cameron chats about his first taste of the Premier League, how Blues’ new emphasis on playing football has helped his game and how he’s found extra confidence under the new management team.
And we hear from him what his ‘A’ sign was all about when he scored against Spurs.
Gary McSheffrey feels he is just starting to rediscover the form which made him such a vital member of Blues’ side last season.
“I felt that over December and Christmas time, I was getting somewhere close to where I want to be,” he told BLUES Magazine. “I had a slow start, not only goal-scoring wise but to my own standards. But in the last month or so, I’ve been heading in the right direction and I feel much happier with my performances.”
All three players say they’ve been given a new lease of life under Blues’ new boss and that the new ideas on the training ground are just starting to pay off.
You can read all three interviews in full in February issue of BLUES Magazine which is in the shops now.
We also feature the top ten moments of last year as voted for by Blues fans. Promotion. The 5-1 trouncing of Newcastle. Seb Larsson’s wonder strikes against Sheffield Wednesday and Spurs. The 3-2 thriller at Wolves. Colin Doyle’s penalty save. The new manager. They are all in there and you can find out which one has been voted number one in an exclusive poll of Blues fans.
Looking at the months ahead, BBCWM’s Paul Franks outlines the eight games which will decide our season, while ex-Blues captain Ian Clarkson gives us his assessment of the teams in the relegation scrap with Blues. And BRMB’s Tom Ross gives us his hard hitting thoughts on how he would shake up the game and return football to the fans.
There are interviews with two ex-players, Noel Blake, now an FA youth coach, and Graham Hyde, and we take a trip down memory lane to 1974 and a memorable win over Arsenal which came just days after selling Bob Latchford to Everton.
With the transfer window in full swing the magazine looks at previous January signings to see if they were worth the money, and there are all the usual favourites - posters, match reports, news from inside St. Andrew’s, talking football, coming up and more.
The February issue of BLUES Magazine is in the shops on Friday 18th January, priced £2.95. It is available from the club shops or from local newsagents or on-line at www.bluesmagazine.co.uk. A year’s subscription, costing £29.50, is available on line or by calling 01225 899975.
