Published monthly BY BLUES FANS FOR BLUES FANS. This 64 page magazine is the official magazine of Birmingham City Football Club.
Each month the magazine is packed with exclusive behind the scenes interviews, match reports, junior blues, fans forums, and, of course, posters of your favourite players.
FEBRUARY ISSUE 2007
Rowan Vine, Cameron Jerome and Seb Larsson all chat exclusively to BLUES Magazine in the February issue which is in the shops this week. There is also a behind the scenes feature on fitness coach Dan Harris who has revolutionised training at the club, an A3 pull-out of the best Blues goal celebrations this season and a special feature on the top ten ‘Magic Moments’ of Steve Bruce’s five years in charge.
On the day he signed, Rowan Vine said signing for Blues was a ‘massive opportunity’. “If I was coming to anyone in this league, I’d choose Birmingham all day long,” he said. “It was the right time for me and it was the right club. As soon as I spoke to Steve Bruce and he told me his plans, that was good enough for me.”
And, despite scoring three goals against Blues this season, he was hoping for a good reception from the Blues fans. “I always give 100% and fans seems to appreciate that. I’m only 24 so I’ve got a lot to learn and I think I’m at the right club to do that.
“I just want to play as many games as I can and do well for the club and the fans, and help get the club back into the Premiership.”
BLUES Magazine found Cameron Jerome and Seb Larsson in confident moods - and that was before the parts they played in the 5-1 demolition of Newcastle!
“I’m confident we’ll be in the top two come the end of the season,” said Cameron in a five-page interview. “We are a confident squad, we know we have a job to do but we know if we work hard, we can take this club straight back up. It’ll be a battle but I believe we are good enough to get this club back up to where it belongs.”
And Seb was equally bouyant. “There’s only one goal and that is to get promoted. That’s the only thing we have on our minds,” he said. “The spirit is really good. In fact, it has been good all the time since the start of the season, even when we had a bit of a dip in form...I’m definitely enjoying my time here.”
Seb chats about how tough he found it coming to Arsenal from Sweden as a 16-year-old, how he’s settling in at Birmingham and how he’s coming to grips with playing in the Championship. And we hear about his amazing knack of scoring late goals.
In another exclusive interview, we go behind the scenes with Dan Harris, the fitness coach and find out how he has revolutionised the training at the club. Some of his methods may be unconventional - including ice baths after gruelling matches - but this season’s tally of 22 goals in the last ten minutes (including two in the Cup at Newcastle) is a sign that he’s doing something right!
The magazine also picks the top ten moments from Steve Bruce’s five year reign at St. Andrew’s. Promotion, Dugarry, the Villa wins, the double over European Champions, Liverpool. They’re all featured.
There are interviews with rising star Sone Aluko and 1960’s goal machine and League Cup winner, Jimmy Harris, plus we go down memory lane to remember the Ipswich Worthington Cup semi-final and the compare the goal-scoring exploits of the 1950s side with our current team.
We ask, who would win in a match between the ‘kids’ and ‘veterans’ in the first team squad and there are all the usual favourites - month in quotes, Blue View, match reports, news from inside St. Andrew’s and more. Plus full colour posters of Neil Danns, Damien Johnson and Mehdi Nafti and a superb A3 pull-out of the best goal celebrations of the season.
