The latest issue of BLUES Magazine is in the shops this week with exclusive interviews with Daniel de Ridder, Mat Sadler and Garry O’Connor while Steve Bruce picks his Fantasy Blues XI from the players who have played under him.
In a new column, BRMB’s Tom Ross also urges Blues to ‘Spend Spend Spend’ in the January transfer window while former Blues captain Ian Clarkson gives us the inside story of raucous Christmas booze-ups from the days of Lou Macari and Terry Cooper!
Daniel de Ridder says Blues’ luck will change. “I think we have shown enough to be confident about our ability to stay up in this league,” he said. “We’ve won the important games against the teams around us but now we have got to get points against the other teams. We’ve played well and been unlucky a few times and didn’t get the points we deserved. But we cannot cry about these kind of things. That’s football. Our luck will turn and I think we can do well.”
De Ridder also pays tribute to the Blues fans and their passion and chats about his move to Blues, his years at the famous Ajax Academy, how the Premier League compares to Spain where he played for Celta Vigo and how he sees the season going for Blues.
Mat Sadler talks about his determination to force his way into Blues’ first team while Garry O’Connor says he can score the goals to keep us up.
“The Gaffer knows I’m chomping at the bit,” said the Blues striker. “I feel I’ve made an impact when I’ve come on...I’m still confident I can score a lot of goals in the Premier League. That’s why I was brought here and if I get the chance, I believe I will get goals.”
We take a look at the highlights of Steve Bruce’s six years in charge in the month that he became the longest serving manager in the club’s post-war history and he gives us the exclusive run-down of his top Blues side picked from the players who have played under him. Christophe Dugarry is - predictably - in the side but there are a few surprises and you can find out if there’s a place for stars like Robbie Savage, who left in acrimonious circumstances, Kenny Cunningham, Mat Upson and Jermaine Pennant.
Also in the magazine is an interview with 1970’s full back Tony Want, we go down memory lane to remember the heartbreaking 1975 FA Cup semi final defeat to Fulham, and there’s a centre page pull-out poster of Olivier Kapo.
There are match reports, news from Inside St. Andrew’s, Junior Blues, Coming Up and lots more.
